Who Was Margaret Mitchell?

Margaret Mitchell, also known as Peggy Marsh, was an American author from right here in Atlanta. She grew up hearing stories from her family about the Civil War, which eventually served as inspiration for the setting of Gone With the Wind. Mitchell published the novel in 1936, and it quickly became a top seller, earning her a Pulitzer Prize and a movie deal soon after. Although she didn’t particularly enjoy being in the spotlight, she always responded to her fan letters and later got involved in philanthropic work.
