Good friends advised us to stay within walking distance of Piedmont Park during our recent visit to the Dogwood Festival. As well connected Atlanta natives, they recommended 3 places to stay, and we were exceptionally fortunate to stay at their first choice, Stonehurst Place. This is the total B&B package, and sets the standard – for grace, elegance, comfort, friendliness, and unbelievably good food – to which other B&B’s aspire.
My wife and I have travelled widely domestically and overseas. There are less than a handful of places that made such a consistently positive experience from crossing the threshold to our reluctant departure. Stonehurst was a marvelous experience.
Assume for the sake of this review that we had a better stay than the other reviewers. I could go on about the white chocolate apricot scone, the quiche . . . the snacks, cookies and pecan pie left on the sideboard throughout the day. There were books, magazines, movies, and welcome spaces in which to relax, both inside and out. But, there was one thing that we learned that was quite unusual – the owners were away for the week. However, they had retained professional backup innkeepers – Susan & Jim – in their absence. It is one thing for owner’s careful touch to drive the experience, as you appreciate small touches of elegance throughout the day, but, it is quite another when you realize that the owners had such obvious care in selecting their ‘second team’ when they are away. No wonder Stonehurst receives such positive reviews. We will stay nowhere else when visiting Atlanta in the future.
