This was the perfect place for a special occasion. My wife and I were looking for a special place to spend our 10th wedding anniversary on our trip to Atlanta. A friend recommended Stonehurst Place. After visiting the BB’s website and reading reviews of the rooms, we decided that this was the place for such an occasion.
We chose The Gables. The room is spacious; there’s lots of closet space to put away things; the bed is big and extremely comfortable, and the bedding is so soft, you’ll quickly fall asleep. The bathroom is just as spacious; an enormous shower for two has multiple shower heads for maximum comfort; the bathroom floor is heated, though we didn’t have a reason to try it out. These are 4-star accommodations.
The hospitality available at Stonehurst Place is exceptional. Paul and Lori were attentive hosts. They went out of their way to guarantee that our stay would be comfortable. They say that the devil is in the details, and the details distinguish this exceptional BB: for example, Lori’s extraordinary breakfasts, the fresh baked for instance zucchini brownies or lemon tart left out every night for the guests to satisfy late-night cravings.
One of the great pleasures of the BB experience is the opportunity to meet the other guests. We met couples from Austria and the UK, and others from San Francisco, Memphis, and even some from Atlanta. The guests very helpful in directing us to restaurants, events, or sights that we had not considered.
Stonehurst is located in mid-town Atlanta, an ideal location, we discovered. Numerous attractions (the Georgia Aquarium, the Coke Museum, the High Museum) are just a 10-minute drive from Stonehurst, though Paul said you can walk to the High from Stonehurst; Piedmont Park is a 5 minute walk from Stonehurst; trendy local bars/restaurants (on 10th and Piedmont) are even closer; and finally, if you’re keen on visitng downtown Decatur’s shops and restaurants like The Iberian Pig, Leon’s Full Service Station, or Cakes and Ale, you’re a short, scenic drive (15 minutes on Ponce de Leon) away.
Stonehurst is a verdant sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of mid-town Atlanta, a place to recharge your batteries in comfort and peace after a long day of sightseeing or shopping.
Thank you, Paul, Lori, and Mardene, our hosts, and Barb, the owner, for creating such a special place where my wife and I could enjoy our 10th wedding anniversary.
We will be returning one day, that’s for certain. And we’ve encouraged several friends to consider staying here whenever they visit Atlanta.
