Stonehurst Place supports storytellers’ Georgia Tour
The Unchained Tour of Georgia plays Atlanta’s
Manuel’s Tavern this Thursday and Friday, 8pm
Internationally acclaimed storytelling network, The Moth, hits Atlanta with The Unchained Tour and two unique evenings of entertainment. The tour features both national and local storytellers from The Moth; these are not your grandfather’s storytellers but rather weavers of contemporary tales drawn from personal experience.

Caroline works her magic with gluten-free waffles!
Our Stonehurst Place kitchen serves gluten-free, lactose-free, vegetarian and vegan guests.
Here is one way Caroline makes it oh-so easy!
This month Caroline shares with us her lighter-than-air gluten-free waffle recipe, which can also be made lactose-free if you like. The key is her all-purpose gluten-free flour mix, perfected in our ‘test’ kitchen! Gluten-free Waffles:
- 1 cup Gluten-free Flour Mix (see below)
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 cup Organic milk (for a lactose-free or vegan version, substitute 1/2 cup apple juice plus 1/2 cup water for the milk)
- 1 Organic egg (for vegans, omit egg and increase baking powder to 2 teaspoons; decrease milk to 3/4 cup)
- 1 teaspoon vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
- 2 teaspoons club soda (or any acid like lemon juice or vinegar)
- Mix flour, baking powder and sugar in bowl. Add milk gradually; stir to mix. Add egg, oil and vanilla; whisk until smooth. Add club soda; whisk for one minute.
- Heat waffle iron; spray with cooking oil.
- Pour 1/2 cup batter into waffle iron.
- Cook according to your waffle iron directions (time varies by iron) and serve immediately with syrup, preserves and the like. Enjoy!
Gluten-free Flour Mix:
- 1 1/4 cup white rice flour
- 1 cup brown rice flour
- 3/4 cup sweet rice four
- 2/3 cup tapioca starch
- 1/3 cup cornstarch
- 1/4 cup potato starch
- 2 teaspoons xantham gum
