I was lucky enough to stumble upon the Stonehurst Place while looking for a place to stay while I attended “market”. As an interior designer, I enjoy the idea of bed and breakfasts, but often fail to be amazed at the décor of many of these inn’s. The Stonehurst Place is a completely different scenario. It’s not often that you find an Eames Lounge chair in your room. No detail of this hotel is left out from the exquisite furniture, original artwork, to even the carefully chosen hinges for the doors. Those are just the aesthetic qualities. The sheets, the showers, the televisions and DVD players all add to this luxurious inn. The Stonehurst Place should be held up as a banner by the green movement as well; showing that saving the planet doesn’t have to mean without style or luxury. Most importantly Caroline and Gary, the innkeepers, make you feel as if you were family. When Caroline found out I was Gluten Intolerant she went above and beyond to accommodate me. In the afternoon she put out rice crackers with the goat cheese, and made “gluten-free” pecan waffles for breakfast. I’m already counting down the days until my next visit. I feel sorry for most of the hotels and inns out there, I don’t know how they’ll ever measure up.
